Use a financial power of attorney to allow a trusted family member or trusted friend to handle your financial matters when you are not able to do so yourself. BE VERY CAREFUL in selecting someone to handle your financial matters. Call your local legal aid or pro bono program or the Georgia Senior Hotline for help before you make a decision to allow someone (even a family member) to handle your financial matters.

This document does two things. It allows you to appoint someone to make health care decisions for you when you are not able to make those decisions yourself. It also allows someone you appoint to make a decision about your continued treatment if you have a terminal disease or are in a state of permanent unconsciousness.
