| Who We Are: |
The Georgia Law Center for the Homeless, a non-profit organization, provides free legal services to the homeless in civil cases throughout Metropolitan Atlanta. The Law Center assists the homeless with all types of civil legal problems and also provides advocacy on behalf of clients in administrative proceedings. The Law Center has appeared on behalf of clients and Federal and State Courts and the Court of Appeals. The Law Center has also filed several class action law suits on behalf of clients. The Law Center does outreach through over 20 shelter visits a month and also sees clients four days a week at the office. The Law Center also has a project called The Community Counsel Project, which assists nonprofits and CDCs with incorporations, obtaining IRS 501c(3) status for existing organizations, operating a listserv for affordable housing advocates, developing and presenting trainings for community groups and advocates on issues involving affordable housing and predatory lending, and assisting neighborhood groups experiencing gentrification.
